David Gourlay

Strategic Partnerships Advisor

David Gourlay brings more than 25 years of experience across the public, private, and charitable sectors to his work at Homeward Public Affairs. Based in Ottawa, he is a strategic advisor and community builder who believes effective public affairs work is grounded in trust, long-term relationships, and a deep commitment to community impact.

David is known for forging strong partnerships that translate vision into action. Throughout his career, he has served as an executive-level leader, initiator, and collaborator, helping organizations strengthen strategy, grow sustainably, and deepen their public presence. In Ottawa’s non-profit sector, he led a high-profile Foundation through a comprehensive renewal of its fundraising program — strengthening donor engagement, cultivating a people-first culture, and serving as chief ambassador to expand community relationships and impact. In recognition of his leadership in the sector, he was named Fundraising Professional of the Year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (Ottawa Chapter).

David’s commitment to community-building extends well beyond his professional roles. He has served on the boards of the Ottawa Public Library, Y’s Owl Maclure, and the Ottawa Community Housing Foundation, and as Board Chair of the Ottawa Sport Council. He founded the Ottawa Champions Baseball Club and co-founded the Miracle League of Ottawa, creating a fully accessible and inclusive recreation facility for children and youth with special needs. In recognition of his civic leadership, David was invested as a Member of the Order of Ottawa, and earlier in his career was recognized as a “40 Under 40” recipient by the Ottawa Business Journal.

At Homeward, David serves as Strategic Partnerships Advisor, leading business development efforts and cultivating relationships that expand the firm’s reach and impact. He works closely with partners across sectors to identify strategic opportunities, build long-term alliances, and ensure Homeward continues to grow in alignment with its mission and values.

David and his wife, Danielle, have two children. Outside of his professional and volunteer work, he enjoys coaching soccer and baseball, teaching math at home, and adding to his baseball card collection.
